ITA Institute of Textile Technology, RWTH Aachen

The Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University is associated with the Department of Textile Engineering and is headed by Professor Thomas Gries. ITA is a part of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the RWTH. ITA is responsible for the textile-related curriculum of the ‘Plastics and Textile Technology’ discipline of study in various Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen. Our research assistants work at ITA in the field of materials, production processes and products for technical applications of textile structures. ITA GmbH acts as a technology transfer company for the ITA Group for 14 years. ITA GmbH is a partner for industries in the field of research and development. The Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University, short ITA, has an area of 6500m² in Aachen for its technical centre, laboratories and offices. ITA, Aachen has a fully equipped and modern technical centre with about 250 textile machines and test benches for all stages of textile processing from filament and yarn spinning to the joining of textiles. Furthermore, different laboratories (textile testing, polymer analysis) and workshops (mechanics, electronic software and hardware) are staffed with technicians.
